7 Signs You're Living from Restlessness

Most people don't think they're restless.
They think they're busy.
There's a difference.
Busy is about what's happening outside you.
Restlessness is about what's happening within you.
You can have a full calendar and be deeply peaceful.
You can also be lying on a beach while your mind races from one thing to the next.
Here are seven subtle signs that restlessness may be quietly running your life.
1. You struggle to do nothing.
The moment there's empty space...
You reach for your phone.
Not because you need it.
Because silence feels uncomfortable.
2. You constantly think the next thing will bring peace.
"When I finish this project..."
"When the weekend arrives..."
"When I get promoted..."
"When the kids are older..."
Peace always lives in the future.
Never here.
3. You listen just enough to reply.
Instead of fully hearing someone...
You're already preparing your response.
The conversation becomes about you.
4. You feel guilty when you're resting.
You equate worth with productivity.
Doing feels safe.
Being feels uncomfortable.
5. Your attention changes every few minutes.
Email.
Slack.
Phone.
News.
Social media.
The problem isn't technology.
It's that restlessness keeps looking for the next object to attach to.
6. You rarely ask yourself how you're actually feeling.
You know what's happening in the news.
You know your calendar.
You know your inbox.
But...
Do you know what's happening inside you?
7. You arrive... but never arrive.
Vacation.
Weekend.
Promotion.
The destination changes.
The restlessness comes with you.
Here's what surprised me most.
I spent years believing I was simply being ambitious.
In reality, much of what I called ambition was restlessness.
I was always trying to arrive somewhere.
Eventually I realized...
There is nowhere to go but here.
There is nowhere to be but now.
That's where life has always been waiting.
That's exactly what we'll explore in our next Freedom From Within workshop.
Not how to become less busy.
But how to become deeply present, even in the middle of a busy life.- Nitin
