What Your Endless Scrolling is Really Searching For?

Most of us think we're addicted to our phones.I think we're addicted to escaping our own restlessness.

It's 10 p.m. I'm lying in bed, scrolling from one app to the next.

Thirty minutes disappear before I even notice.

I tell myself I'm looking for something.

News. Entertainment. Connection. One more interesting post.

But the truth is...

The mind is searching for something that can't be found.

That's what restlessness feels like.

I could have spent the same thirty minutes talking with my wife or reading a book but now that time has gone into mindless scrolling.

Until we learn to settle ourselves, this restlessness continues and shows up in many different forms.

We are restless in conversations, rushing to say what’s on our mind yet barely listening.

We are restless in idle time, looking to fill our time with any form of entertainment or shopping just to keep ‘occupied’.

We are restless when going somewhere and restless when coming back.

This innate restlessness follows us and goes wherever we go. Until we learn to settle it.

Don’t confuse restlessness with being busy.

You can be busy, have lots going on and still be restful in your work and interactions.

We are restless in life in many similar ways.

Hoping to reach an imaginary ‘destination’ so we can finally be at peace.

Until you deeply realize that…

There is nowhere to go but here.

There is nowhere to be but now.

That is the only place your life has ever happened and ever will.

It’s all happening right here, right now.

I invite you to be with that and find the truth for yourself.  - Nitin
